Since the mid-1970s, Hooker has consistently produced work which traverses recognised categories within art and interdisciplinary research, to include sculptures, installations, audio-works and image-making, as well as fusions of dance, music and theatre. During the 1970s and 1980s he undertook numerous site-specific performances and installations in Britain, Europe, America and Australia. From the ’90s onwards his public sculptures, exhibitions and installations have featured unique sound systems which fuse together aspects of art and science.
Charlie Hooker performed several pieces over the years including; Percussion Walk, 1979; Move In, 1981; Mainbeam, 1983 (all The Basement Group); and City Overlay, 1986 (Projects UK)
